BTME - Business and Technology Management in Europe (Summer School, June 21st until July 8th, 2009)

Business Simulation – Hope, frustration and finally serenity

The Business Simulation was a business management game that established al link between business management theory and business management in practice. The simulation presented a realistic a model of company ant thus provided participants with the opportunity to quickly gain the lasting effects of a practical experience in a risk-free environment.

During the Summer School there were two markets (group A and group B) each with five companies. The Students were part of the Managing Board of one company that competed with four other companies in their market (group A or group B). Considering the business reports of the company, economic forecasts, mission and the business objectives they had to find a strategy for the company and made decisions in Sales and Marketing, Research and Development, Procurement, Production, Human Resources, Investment, Finance and other value drivers.
At the end of the simulation the students had to prepare a presentation for the shareholder meeting.

These questions had to answer in the presentation:

  • What were our goals and strategies?
  • How did things arise and where do the company stand now? (The students had to analyze the past four periods and the current situation)
  • How would the company have continued?
  • Why should an investor buy the share of the company right now?
  • What was the group work like?
